Notes to Editors Eckington Parish is directly east of the M1 junction 30 and west of Dronfield with boundaries to Stavely, Killamarsh and South Yorkshire. At a Council meeting held 17 January 2017, Eckington Parish Councillors resolved to hold an Extraordinary Council meeting at Eckington Civic Centre, 7pm 24th January 2017. Eckington Parish Council PRESS RELEASE 25th January 2015 At an Extraordinary Council meeting held 24th January, Eckington Parish Council voted overwhelmingly to oppose the exploration for shale, gas deposits within the Parish boundary. At Eckington Civic Centre a packed audience heard councillors debate the issue and adopt the motion ‘’This Parish Council will object to any hydraulic drilling and exploration for gas and oil and fracking on any land in the Parish boundary’’. The meeting follows the announcement by chemical giant INEOS to drill an exploratory well in the Marsh Lane area, with a view to future gas extraction. Councillors were informed that an application is to be lodged with Derbyshire County Council at the end of January 2017. Parish Chair and Eckington County Councillor Brian Ridgway said ‘’There is a long road ahead and a lot of hard work to do. The community needs to be organised to meet this challenge.
